Introduction to the Learning Lab

What is the Redbird Learning Lab?

The Redbird Learning Lab is East Carter’s new before-school, after-school, and Monday program made possible through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. The program gives students additional opportunities to learn, explore, create, and grow beyond the traditional school day.
Students will participate in academic support, STEM activities, hands-on enrichment, physical activity, and other engaging learning experiences. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and supportive environment where students can build skills, discover new interests, and connect with others.
We are excited to bring this opportunity to our Redbird families and can’t wait to learn and grow together!

Redbird Learning Lab Parent Handbook

Our Redbird Learning Lab Parent Handbook includes important information about schedules, attendance, transportation, meals, expectations, safety, and program procedures.

Please Note: As we begin our first year of the Redbird Learning Lab, some procedures may evolve as we learn what works best for our students and families. We appreciate your flexibility and will communicate any changes throughout the year.

Attendance Notice

Students enrolled in Redbird Learning Lab are expected to participate regularly and remain for the full program period whenever possible. Because consistent participation is an important requirement of the 21st Century grant, families should enroll only if they intend for their child to attend on a regular basis. Our goal is for each enrolled student to participate at least 30 days during the school year.

StarLab @ East Carter!

🌟 Bringing Learning to Life with StarLab

One of the exciting features of the Redbird Learning Lab will be our StarLab portable planetarium! StarLab transforms an ordinary space into an immersive learning environment where students can explore the night sky, planets, constellations, space, and much more.

StarLab will be incorporated into our Learning Lab curriculum to provide hands-on STEM enrichment that connects directly to what students are learning in school. Lessons can be adapted for different grade levels and will reinforce science standards through topics such as astronomy, Earth and space science, weather, seasons, navigation, mythology and constellations, and the relationship between Earth, the moon, and the sun.

Rather than simply learning about these concepts from a book or screen, students will be able to step inside the planetarium and experience them! StarLab will be used throughout the year as part of our Monday and enrichment programming to encourage curiosity, exploration, problem-solving, and a love of STEM learning.
